The Houston Texans ended the 2014 season with a winning 9-7 record, quite the turnaround from the previous season’s 2-14 performance. Second-year coach Bill O’Brien will look to improve upon that in 2015 with a talented roster.

In 2014, the Texans had four different quarterbacks take the field and this season, the position should become less cloudy. Ryan Mallet, along with Brian Hoyer has the potential to succeed under center and each one has their strengths and weaknesses.  The Texans have one of the best running backs in the league in Arian Foster, however he tends to struggle to remain on the field due to various injuries. Foster’s primary backup Alfred Blue ran for 528 yards as a rookie and did a great job filling in for the sidelined Foster. Houston lost their all-time leading receiver Andre Johnson to free agency during the offseason. Although Johnson is no longer the stud receiver of his former days, the Texans will have to look to third year guy DeAndre Hopkins to fill his shoes. Cecil Shorts III and Nate Washington, both acquired via free agency over the offseason, will most likely round out the receiving trio.

On the defensive side of the ball, Houston has arguably the best lineman in football in J.J.Watt. All-Pro veteran Vince Wilfork came over from the Patriots to add to the line, and he should be able to give them a solid 40 snaps a game. The Texan’s  linebackers are a work in progress but should do a decent job defending the run and rushing the passer in 2015. Safety Rahim Moore signed as a free agent from the Denver Broncos which should give their secondary a lift and this year’s first round draft pick Kevin Johnson should perform well enough to see the field as a nickel corner.

As a whole, this Texan’s team is solid with a decent amount of depth. They will need players on both sides of the ball to remain healthy including a swift recovery from last year’s number one draft pick Jadeveon Clowney to make a legitimate run in the AFC South. A wildcard berth in the AFC is well within their reach though, so be sure to secure your Houston Texans tickets to see this talented team in person this season.
